Community Engagement
The Education Department is an active member of Maine's educational community.
We maintain close connections with local schools and communities, and our students can often be found in school classrooms, learning and working with teachers and their students.
Several of our core classes incorporate a field placement, providing students the chance to be in a classroom as both observer and participant. The schools encompass rural, suburban and urban settings in grades K-12.
Additionally, students in our advanced seminars take an overnight trip to a Maine island to learn more about island school communities. Bowdoin students in these courses then take a turn hosting an island high school student on campus.

Each year, the Education Department recognizes a local educator who makes an important contribution to the community and embodies our department's core values. Learn more about our awardees.
